A few years ago while taking the dog for an Autumn walk I found thousands upon thousands of ladybugs congregating around the base of multiple pine trees. Now every fall I search for them as the air cools. Their activity is highly dependent on ambient temperature. When it lingers in the 40’s during the day they will wander around the base of the trees or nearby grass stalks. If the temperature falls below freezing they nestle themselves deep in the grooves of the bark, piled on top of each other.
